(KWWL) – As more people get vaccinated, the pandemic is turning a corner. However, with that progress, more COVID relief programs are ending.

But if you are a renter or landlord that is still behind on bills, the Iowa Finance Authority has a rent and utility program for Iowans everywhere.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE PROGRAM:
- Go to iowafinance.com
- Search for “Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance Program”
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to see if your household is eligible
- If so, scroll down further, and click ‘apply now’ to start the application process
- Complete the questionnaire
- Submit your application
Knowing the pandemic has affected people in multiple areas, communications director, Ashley Jared, said the program covers more than one bill.
“There is no maximum dollar amount per person, we take a very careful look at what due amounts owed for rent and utility and are working hard to make sure we can clear that up for them,” Jared said, “if they’re eligible for the program, just as long as they don’t exceed that 12-month maximum cap.”
Started to accept applications in March, Jared said the program is already flooded with applications.
“We have a total of 12,000 applications being between renters, those seeking utility assistance, and landlords, we’re estimating that we have about 4,000 unique households right now as well,” Jared said.
Past due payments are not eligible if the occurred before March 13th, 2020.
Jared also said there’s plenty of time to apply, because the only deadline in place, is September 30th, 2022.
